Pointe Du Hoc V


The Germans furious that their forward position was captured and their cannon along with an ammo dump destroyed, launch violent assualts on the Rangers holding the Point. The attacks continue over the course of the day, into the night and onto the following morning. With only three 101st Airborne Division paratroopers who were misdropped in the area who somehow avoided the Germans and twenty Rangers dropped off by landing craft as their reinforcements, the Americans hung on until troops reached them on D+ 1. Of the over two hundred that made the attack, only 50 were capable of fighting when they were relieved.
