Eyewitness Marinus Leermakers
I was 9 years of age.
I was playing soccer in the street when airplanes came over our village,
At low speed and very low.
I heard loud noises and a big bang.
My father took me by bicycle to the place were the noise came from.
I saw a plane crashed near the ditch of the kerkhovense street in a field.
Just were now a days is a road junction.
There were people taking "souvenirs".
I saw a man taking radio equipment and there were 2 wheels set against a wall off the farmhouse across the street.
I saw a rope hanging in a tree.
The plains nose was crushed severely
Then the Germans came and we were send home.
I saw dr Desain and the red cross at the crash site.
I did not see a jeep.
When I asked about his sold "dr Desain" jeep he said that he did know where it is today but doesn't want to tell me because the owner had past away and after taking some left spare parts to his widow last years winter she still was in grief.
One week later he talks again to my neighbours and admits that he made up the jeeps background back in the days when he came in its possession and named it the dr Desain jeep by sort of honoring the doctor.
But I and other people I spoke to still believe in his sincerity as an eyewitness.
