Pvt. Charles A. Wilber, 27 years old, taken in May, 1944 just before he entered into combat a month later. Since the German counterattack took over the village of Opheusden, my Father assumed or was incorrectly told that Wim and Dir van den Bosch were killed by the Nazis for helping him. He would die on May 23,2000, never knowing that these two Hollanders had survived the war. Wim and Dir, never heard from him or any story about this wounded American soldier, so they both assumed he must of died from his wounds and also passed on never knowing the American they aided had indeed survived.
