The Susan B

An enemy view of Omaha Beach. I sometimes wonder what the average German soldier thought as 6,000 craft approached their position. Pictured below is the bluffs that the Americans faced on June 6,1944. On D+1, June 7th, the troopship Susan B. Anthony was steaming off of Omaha on the way to Utah Beach to drop off troops to reinforce the airborne soldiers that landed a day before. The plan was this was needed because estimates as high of 80% causalities could be expected. As it turns out total losses during the campaign ranged from 30-40% in the 101st and 82nd Divisions, but only 25% were with their units after the first day.....
