Journey to Holland[Canals] |
|
Friday, October 1, 2004, Amsterdam, Holland. After a seven hour flight my brother Dave and I arrive in the land taken from the sea by its inhabitants. We are in Europe to retrace our father's steps during World War II with the 101st Airborne Division. Among the stops on our journey is to visit the relatives of Wim and Dir van den Bosch, a brother and a sister, who saved our father's life in the small village of Opheusden on October 5,1944 after he was twice wounded by the German forces who were counterattacking the gains of Operation Market-Garden. To the right and below are scenes along the canals of Amsterdam. There are seven concentric circles of canals in the inner section of Amsterdam protecting the city from the ocean.
